Introduction to Vedas The Vedas are almost the oldest written document in the world. Vedas are the supreme and paramount scriptures of Hinduism. It is believed that on the basis of Vedas, other religions of the world originated, who propagated the knowledge of Vedas in different languages in their own way. The word Veda is derived from the Sanskrit word "Vid", which means that all types of knowledge are contained in this one word. The ancient Indian sages who have been called Mantrishtas, after knowing, understanding, contemplating and feeling the esoteric mysteries of the mantras, compiled that knowledge and presented them to the world, that ancient text is called "Veda". There is also a belief that their mantras were indirectly recited by the Supreme Lord to the ancient sages. That is why Vedas are also called Shruti. In common parlance, Veda means "knowledge".
