The ancient Indian sages who have been called Mantrishtas, after knowing, understanding, contemplating and feeling the esoteric mysteries of the mantras, compiled that knowledge and presented them to the world, that ancient text is called "Veda". There is also a belief that their mantras were indirectly recited by the Supreme Lord to the ancient sages. That is why Vedas are also called Shruti.

Compilation of Veda Mantras and Number of Vedas
It is believed that the Vedas were initially one and were divided into four parts according to their convenience for reading. This is evident from a verse mentioned in the Shrimad Bhagwat. There are thousands of mantras and compositions in these Vedas which may not have been composed at the same time or by a single sage. These were composed from time to time by the sages and they kept on gathering.
Agni, Vayu and Surya did penance and attained Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda, according to the Shatapatha Brahmana verse.
The first three Vedas are associated with Agni, Vayu and Surya. The relation of these three names with the sages has been told, because the reason for this is that the fire dispels the darkness which is the darkness of ignorance. For this reason it has become a symbol of knowledge. Air is usually moving, its function is to move (flow). It means to keep doing karma or work. Therefore it is related to karma. The sun is the brightest one whom everyone bows down to and worships him. That is why it is said that he is worshipable, that is, worthy of worship. According to a book, the four Vedas originated from the four faces of Brahma.
The Vedas are the oldest books, so it is natural to name a person or a place from the Vedas. Like even today people and places etc. are named from the words that came in Ramayana, Mahabharata etc.
